Sleep Apnea in Boca Raton, FL
Sleep apnea is a condition where a person stops breathing for significant periods during their sleep. Sleep apnea usually happens because the soft tissue in the mouth and throat falls back during sleep and occludes the airway. At Dental Care of Boca Raton in Boca Raton, we get many referrals for sleep apnea dental appliances. The other prevalent method of treating sleep apnea is CPAP.
Treating sleep apnea is important to prevent complications. First of all, those suffering from sleep apnea will experience excessive fatigue during the day, which can lead to accidents while driving or at work. That’s not the end of it, though. Not getting enough oxygen during sleep can cause high blood pressure and heart problems.

Dental Appliances for Sleep Apnea
At Dental Care of Boca Raton, we set up dozens of patients with dental appliances for their sleep apnea throughout the year. These include mandibular devices and tongue retainers. Mandibular devices and tongue retainers work by holding the soft tissue of the mouth in place.
Keeping the tongue and mandible positioned away from the airway will keep it open. These devices are small and easy to sleep with. We make them with precision, so they don’t affect your breathing or make it hard to fall asleep. They can be effective alone in mild to moderate sleep apnea. They can be used in combination with CPAP in moderate to severe cases.

CPAP
CPAP stands for continuous positive airway pressure. This is a device with a mask at the end of it. Patients wear the mask over their faces while they sleep, and the device pumps air continuously while they sleep. It’s very useful in those with severe sleep apnea. CPAP settings can be lowered in those who also use dental appliances.
Most patients prefer dental appliances to the CPAP machine because the CPAP has some side effects. It can be very hard to sleep with a mask over your face. Additionally, continuous air causes dry mouth, dry nose, and nosebleeds. Many patients find it hard to use the CPAP machine every night because of these side effects.

I absolutely LOVE this Dental office! Dr. A is the absolute best, very experienced, quick and genuinely cares about the comfortability of his patients. I wouldn't want anyone else to work on my teeth but him. His staff are all extremely kind and I always leave much better (mentally and physically) and cleaner than when I went in. I would absolutely recommend this place 100% of the time!! :)
Rachel HoldmanI had to have my front tooth crown replaced because it was poorly done by a previous dentist
My new front crown is PERFECT! Dr A and the staff made sure I was completely satisfied and the tooth matches perfectly. This is very difficult to do with your front teeth
Highly recommend Dental Care! They also have very convenient office hours!
